With 2020 finally at our fingertips, I thought it was the appropriate and perfect time to post this stunning Southern Perry Lane Hotel wedding in Savannah, Ga.
My sweet bride Mallory planned a Great Gatsby and Roaring 20s formal themed wedding for her venue, details, & bridesmaids dresses. Mallory’s color palette was deep forest green, gold, black and white and her attention to details was outstanding. She gets it naturally since her mother, DeDe, is wedding photographer herself. Between the MOB and Malloy, they picked out some of Savannah’s top venues and vendors to celebrate Mallory’s marriage to Alex.
Wedding details are certainly some of my favorite things at all weddings, but Mallory + Alex made it all extra special. Both of them had their personalities shine through all day long. As a photographer, its extra enjoyable when YOU pick things that tell your story. Makes the moments that more personable when you get to view your photos for years to come.
Mallory works at Disney in Orlando, therefore, Alex + Mallory frequently get to visit Harry Potter’s world. ( Which I envy because that is one of my favorite places to visit. ) Therefore, on the wedding day, Mallory got custom wands made for them to enjoy. But the details don’t stop there, Mickey and Minnie Mouse had their debut at the cake cutting table and bubbles surrounded their love throughout the day. Why bubbles? Well, who doesn’t love bubbles? But genuinely it’s because Mallory’s mother loves photographing bubble exits at her client’s weddings. Since DeDe couldn’t be the photographer for her daughter’s wedding, Mallory decided a buddle exit would bring a little bit of her mom’s touch throughout their wedding day.
However, the tangible details are not my most favorite moment from their wedding. My favorite moment was their first look. It’s become typical to photograph a first look prior to the wedding. But this isn’t what Mallory + Alex did. They are Catholic and faith means a lot to them, therefore having some classic wedding traditions meant a lot to them. Them seeing each other prior to the ceremony wasn’t an option.
Instead, they had a private moment while viewing their reception for the first time. Not during the grand entrance, but a moment before cocktail hour ended. Their reaction was intimate and truly special to them. Planning a wedding takes a lot of work and time, so treating yourself a moment to soak it in is a fantastic idea. And the moment followed as Alex held out his hand and asked Mallory to dance with him. They wanted to have their first dance in private to soak up their moment as husband and wife. Are you crying yet? Because that is probably one of the sweetest things I have seen at any wedding. So thoughtful and unique way to still have your moment together alone and enjoy all the time + energy you spend planning a wedding.
Check out some of my favorite detail shots + moments from Malloy & Alex’s Southern Savannah Wedding inspired by the Roaring 20s.
